As an artist and gamer, I have always found video games to be a form of philosophy – sharing one’s interpretation of life through a programmed space. As technology has broadened how we experience games, it has been exciting to see what aspects of life are being included in virtual environments.
This screen capture references one of the many objects present in my work - antique furniture.

This screen capture references the conversation of repatriation. The point of the game takes place in a mansion. I could not help but think about the possible scenarios of how this work entered this virtual home and if repatriation should be reconciled in virtual narratives as well.

Early Bird, November 14, 2022. Cyberpunk 2077, PlayStation 4 Screen Capture.
“Early Bird” is referencing the style of Genre painting, incorporating human-like encounters provides a sense of contemplative space to the immersive open-world gaming experience. Limited to a select range of poses in the console version of the game I sought to explore the anthropomorphic quality of my avatar to expand on the conversation of relationship building in Cyberpunk’s plot.
V’s World, December 14, 2022. Cyberpunk 2077, PlayStation 4 Screen Capture.
Cyberpunk’s future is one of biotechnological advancement and industrial blight. The human body can be altered and repaired surgically through “cyberware” enhancements. As a result of these devices V has developed a neurodegenerative disease which drives the plot of the story. The screen capture “V’s World” is drawing from parallels with Andrew Wyeth’s “Christina’s World” both visually through the figure and conceptually through the subjects’ pasts. In the case of Wyeth’s painting, the subject of the work has a degenerative muscular disorder which limits her ability to walk.
Close Encounter, December 14, 2022. Cyberpunk 2077, PlayStation 4 Screen Capture.
As an artist and gamer, I have always found video games to be a form of philosophy – sharing one’s interpretation of life through a programmed space. As technology has broadened how we experience games, it has been exciting to see what aspects of life are being included in virtual environments. The convincing aspects of Cyberpunk 2077 or any game-derived city/environment are inclusive of the everyday and mundane in both environment and through interactions with other characters. “Close Encounter” captures an instance where environment influences NPC (non-playable character) with human interaction.
Ladies’ Room, December 12, 2022. Cyberpunk 2077, PlayStation 4 Screen Capture.

Night City Street; Rainy Night, December 16, 2022. Cyberpunk 2077, PlayStation 4 Screen Capture .
Recreating the Earth-ness of our planet must be a similar process for video game artist as it is for an artist working in any other media such as paint or animation. Capturing the nuances in nature require deliberate observation of the movement of light on materials with a variety of surfaces. The rendering of seasonal shifts and even how the NPCs respond to environmental changes are integral to the theatrics of the game. The Cyberpunk developers recently added a rain and umbrella update to the world’s virtual environment. Experiencing the world before and after the rain update revealed how important weather was in evoking a feeling of environment in the game. The screenshot “Night City Street; Rainy Night” was taken in conversation with Gustave Caillebotte’s “Paris Street; Rainy Day.”
